I have always had an interest in photography and studied it as part of my degree.   The images exist in their own right and I very rarely use them to paint from .

I used to use an SLR and occasionally worked in black and white, developing and printing my own films but nowadays I find I use my digital camera constantly.   I love the ability to delete images as I go if I'm not happy with them and to save them on disc and manipulate them in photoshop.
